Eastern Norway Research Institute

Eastern Norway Research Institute (ENRI) was established in 1984 as a private autonomous non-profit foundation. The Institute has its main base at Storhove near Lillehammer, and an office established in Hamar. In Lillehammer we are co-located with reserach and educational institutions (Lillehammer College and NINA).

The Board is composed of 7 members. The Board is appointed on the basis of proposals from respectively Lillehammer College, Hedmark College, the county authorities of Hedmark and Oppland, the University of Oslo, the Norwegian Research Council and the employees. The present Chairman of the Board is Njål Fausker.

The daily management of the Institute is undertaken by Director Morten Ørbeck.

 

 

Staff


The Institute has presently a staff of 27. The staff constitutes an interdisciplinary and inter-scientific community with the main emphasis within the social sciences. The researchers have higher degrees in various disciplines such as economics, social anthropology, geography, societal planning, political science, sociology, the sociology of education, and philosophy as well as such subject areas as agriculture and engineering. Most of them have long experience of contract research.

Areas of activity

The research activity is based on assignments and extends from long-term research projects to research-based analytical reporting and consultancy work. The institute have a large number of clients. The majority are public bodies such as the Norwegian Research Council, ministries and directorates, county authorities and local state administration. We also have assignments for organisations, individual local authorities and private firms.

 


The areas of research are:

  • Welfare research, from the perspectives of both the users and management/implementation

  • Studies of public (local authority) organisation and production of services
    Cultural studies

  • Evaluations of public policy and measures

  • Analyses of the labour market and labour market measures

  • Population studies and studies of population movement

  • Studies of the regional development and industrial reorganisation of the business world and individual industries

  • Industrial studies within inter alia tourism and industries based on agriculture and forestry

  • Studies of the use of natural resources and industrial exploitation of unenclosed land

  • Gender research

  • Use of ICT in organisations

  • Schools/Education

 

Publications

 

Results are published in various ways, and depending on the wishes of the client. Publishing extends from articles in scientific journals and lectures at research conferences via articles in popular scientific journals and specialist periodicals to feature articles in the daily press and general lecturing activity. In addition most of our works are published in our own series of publications.
